A referral is required from an Ontario physician for MRIs and CT & PET scans (often used to investigate knees, hips, back or neck problems, rule out cancers or tumours, mammography (breast scan) and other imaging services.)

These scans can usually be arranged in border cities like Buffalo, New York (near Buffalo) usually the next business day for MRI & CT. Results of your test are usually available to your doctor the next business day.

Payment for the procedures is made directly by the patient to the imaging facility. The cost of other scans and services depends on the physical area being investigated by the scan and whether certain dyes or other diagnostic tools are required.
